Ant & Dec and Piers Morgan lead stars who masterminded epic April Fools’ Day pranks

Ant and Dec kicked off April Fools’ Day with a good old fashion prank by telling fans they are rebranding themselves as “Dec and Ant”.

The pair were among the first celebrities to get involved in this year’s japes, alongside Good Morning Britain star Richard Arnold.

Every year, famous faces from across the world of entertainment get involved in fun antics on April 1 with jokes being allowed up until midday.

One of the best pranks of last year came from the jokers at Coronation Street, who announced the soap would be revamped into a cartoon version.

A tweet from the official Corrie Twitter account read: “Coronation Street: The Animated Series. Experience all the drama, comedy and romance you’ve come to expect from Corrie, but in a way you’ve never seen before .”

2020 was more subdued than previous years as the country was just weeks into the coronavirus pandemic and was going through the first national lockdown.

However, April Fools’ Day practical jokes have restarted in earnest this year and some of our favourite celebrities have been getting involved.

Keep up with this year’s pranks on our live blog.

The pair are known for presenting with Ant on the left and Dec on the right, but this picture showed them in reverse.

A caption on the picture declared they are rebranding themselves as “Dec and Ant”.

It read: “Some big news for you guys… after 30 long years together we’ve decided a change is needed, and so without further ado…

“We can announce we’ll now be officially known as Dec & Ant. It’s only fair on the little guy x.”

A statement from Dec added: “I’m over the moon. We agreed back in the Byker [Grove] days that he’d [Ant] take the first 30 years and I’d take the rest.

“It’s really the only reason I’ve been hanging around with him for so long.”

Ant added: “I’ve had a good run, but it’s time to hand over the reins.

“Hopefully this step back will give me more time to focus on some of my neglected hobbies… such as stamp collecting and medieval battle reenactments.”

“It has apparently come after a year of lockdown which has seen the species become so lonely that telly bosses hope that they can find birds of a feather flock together once again.”

But viewers quickly clocked on and flocked to Twitter to expose the segment as a prank.
