Greek pet homeowners protest required sterilization of animals

Quite a few hundred doggy proprietors and their pets have collected outside the house Greece’s Parliament in protest against a draft legislation that will make sterilization of household animals — in particular cats and canines — required

The puppy owners railed from the bill’s “abolition of novice breeding, the backbone of doggy loving,” as they termed it in a statement. Most of them had been also hunters and protested from final year’s ban on hunting, because of to the coronavirus pandemic.

Federal government officers have reported the invoice does in fact goal so-termed “amateur breeding” by non-experts, who do it for the income. They say there are often abusive tactics, with woman pet dogs compelled to breed constantly for most earnings and often discarded when of no further more use to the breeder.

The protesters observed it in different ways, and had been generally emotional about it.

“We are here to clearly show our enjoy to our little ones. They are not just our pet dogs, (they are) what we have been loving because we were young ones and those who govern want to choose them absent from us,” a tearful Christos Xiros, 1 of the protesters, informed The Affiliated Press.

The protesters dispersed peacefully immediately after chanting slogans and listening to a speech.

The draft bill is continue to at the session stage. It will then be submitted to Parliament.
